Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Position Summary: Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Team Lead is responsible for inspecting component parts and complete product for conformance to process controls using visual inspection and various measurement tools of advanced complexity. Participate in making decisions affecting the work and the employees performing that work.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead quality team employees performing final and incoming inspections
  • Assist, assign work and instruct team of quality technician / inspector on:
  • Evaluation of non-conforming components
  • Perform internal process audits as required, report all findings
  • Preparing and entering NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports)
  • Analyze and report on materials, processes and products that may cause quality issue
  • Assist in the dimensional analysis of components to help identify potential quality issues
  • Exercise the authority to “shut down” non-conforming processes after notifying Quality Manager
  • Communicate drawing discrepancies to Engineering
  • Participate in customer inspections as needed
  • Write Customer Improvement Initiative (CII) / Corrective Action Request for audits and assist employees who wish to report a problem requiring corrective action for repetitive problems
  • Report violations of ISO 9001 standards to the Quality Manager for further action
  • Ensure effective implementation of and compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Participate in prototype review process for all newly developed products as needed
  • Responsible (along with team members from product engineering, manufacturing engineering and production) for the creation/implementation of process control charts for all critical processes
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Plan and conduct training to quality team and other teams on inspection tasks, process audit, and other quality topics as needed
  • Provide adequate supervision to the team, ensuring team members are working in a safe and efficient way and are provided with the required tools, support and guidance
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms
  • Assist with evaluating the performance of team members against their job requirements and performance goals with the support of the Quality Manager
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications:

  • Post secondary diploma or degree in quality management or equivalent mix of relevant education and proven work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience performing technical work in a manufacturing environment, ideally in a quality assurance role.
  • ASQ certification in quality or lean six sigma is an asset.
  • Experience leading a team is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise and coordinate activities within a department comprised of diverse tasks and demanding schedules
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, wiring and ladder diagrams
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) skills in MS Word and Excel. Experience using an ERP system desirable
  • Ability to utilize mechanical inspection measuring tools and electrical test equipment used at G&W Canada
  • Thorough knowledge or Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Must be able to understand and apply elements of corrective and preventive actions
