Position Summary: As the Sr. Quality Engineer – NPD, you will participate as a member of a cross-functional NPD team by representing the Quality Assurance discipline. This position works closely with members from Program Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales/Marketing, Supplier Quality, and our Operations team to facilitate the use of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methods with our NPD projects to assure a flawless product launch.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Incorporates product requirements into program AQP plan and assures requirements are cascaded to components AQP plan.
  • Utilize the tools of APQP (PPAP, FMEA’s, control plans, capability studies) throughout the NPD process. Develop and manage an open issues list to drive to on-time closure with a cross functional team.
  • Conduct process audits for all disciplines of the NPD process to ensure accuracy of paperwork, test reports, and compliance to NPD procedures.
  • Partner with our supplier quality team on the supplier PPAP requirements and compliance.
  • Develops and manages a program specific quality plan on each new program.
  • Facilitates root cause investigations including all project 8D’s and 5Y’s including reporting status to closure.
  • Develops and maintains statistics (Yields, X-Bar & R, Sigma, Pp/Ppk, Cp/Cpk, Gage R&R, etc.) on all significant part and internal process characteristics on new products.
  • Develops prototype control plan; collects and analyzes pilot build data to refine.
  • Provides quality/warranty concerns to team by reviewing lessons learned, warranty performance, and ensures additions to the DFMEA.
  • Performs plant control plan and PFMEA audits at major milestone events and manages / drives open issues list with cross functional team.
  • Keeps good quality plan records and informs program team of timely execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and application of Advanced Quality Planning tools (PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, Process Mapping, Gage Studies, and SPC).
  • Knowledge and ability to apply statistical tools/methods to sample size, problem solving and process improvement (Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Lean Principles, Root Cause Analysis, Mistake Proofing/Poka Yoke).
  • Advanced knowledge of audit methodologies related to process audits and quality systems audits.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Strong leadership, organization and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with multiple levels of personnel/departments within the organization
  • Ability to advocate product excellence and quality.

Education

  • Bachelor’s in engineering or related area, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)

Physical Demands / Working Conditions / Travel Required:

  • General Office Environment, PC use
  • Travel requirements up to 25% including Internationally
