Position Summary: Reporting to the Production Manager, this role is responsible for supervising manufacturing operations and employees for a designated value stream. This position plans and assigns resources, implements policies and procedures, recommends and executes improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.


Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas, seeking to meet and improve schedule dates, improve quality, reduce process times, reduce inventory levels, increase the utilization of resources and manage department priorities.
  • Supervise the work and activities of manufacturing employees, manages manpower and materials needed to complete jobs accurately and on time, monitors production schedules and results, manages departmental performance measures, and provides regular progress reports to management and peers.
  • Responsible for monitoring/approving time and attendance of departmental employees, issuing corrective actions when required. Manages and maintains approved headcount with HR coordination, and recommends and justifies required changes.
  • Monitors all transactional departmental performance, including work order management, inventory transactions, and drives root cause investigations when issues arise (scrap, rework, inventory, past due work orders, etc.) Actively involved in providing recommendations based on their diagnostics.
  • Ensures effective employee relations by actively communicating with employees, providing regular employee feedback, mentoring and development and resolving employee issues through coaching and problem resolution.
  • Evaluate and update the performance of team members against their job requirements and performance goals within the time frame designated for their position level, recommends and utilizes corrective actions when required, provides input and recommendations on employment decisions.
  • Determines departmental training requirements and establishes, creates, and maintains all required training matrices and records (TWI, ISO, cross training, onboarding, etc.);
  • Responsible for safety compliance of all departmental employees, and all EH&S supervisor activities per WHMIS guidelines.
  • Ensure employees’ personal safety by identifying and coordinating appropriate safety training, as well as creating, maintain and enforcing departmental and company safety rules.
  • Actively serves on, or supports JHSC team, and lead activities required in incident reporting, performing accident investigations, and safety audits. Ensures departmental 6S standards are met, that a safe and clean work area is created and maintained on a daily basis.
  • Assist in initiating, implementing and leading continuous improvement activities, monitoring for internal and external trends, completes root cause analysis on departmental quality issues, and develops appropriate corrective actions when required.
  • Works cross functionally with departments across the organization, including Supply Chain, Engineering, Safety, and other manufacturing support.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years’ progressive experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience directing an hourly or manufacturing workforce.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to influence others to foster ideas and continuous improvement.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience using the MS Office suite; MS excel, Word, Powerpoint etc. as well as a business planning and inventory system.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing concepts and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge and leadership in the principles and practice of Lean, Six Sigma, 5P and/or other continuous improvement models; participated in related improvement projects.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed organization and prioritization skills; detailed oriented.
  • Embraces changes with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure in a high paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated individual with a sense of initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical College/University degree completed or in process.


Leadership:

Responsible for day-to-day performance of a team of 20 + employees. Guides/monitors group toward its goals ensures employee’s productivity, resolve problems, has authority to change work roles and work distribution. Responsible for genuine input regarding Human Resources matters of significance: e.g. participates in selection of new employees, provides meaningful input to performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations etc.
