Position Summary: Reporting to the Team Lead – Materials, the Material Handler is responsible for a variety of duties related to the movement of materials and product within the plant, including but not limited to loading and unloading materials from trucks, processing incoming and outgoing shipments, and moving parts, materials, product between production departments.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Load, unload, move and store a variety of incoming materials.
  • Receive and deliver product in a timely manner.
  • Work with Planners, Buyers, and other intra-office personnel to maintain inventory and process shipments.
  • Operate fork lift truck to move materials and stack loaded pallets. Load outgoing trucks using hand truck, lift truck or overhead crane.
  • Maintain in-process inventory at work centers by delivering materials on a timely basis.
  • Assist in troubleshooting transactional and/or procedural problems related to inventory accuracy with Planners/Buyers/etc.
  • Perform appropriate transactions efficiently and accurately on the current business system.
  • Count, weigh or measure incoming or outgoing orders and compare against bills of lading and/or invoices for accuracy.
  • Provide back up to shipping and receiving as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Certification

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D
  • Fork Lift experience and current certification is a must

Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills

  • Minimum one (1) year shipping/receiving experience, including experience using computerized systems.
  • Fork Lift experience and current certification is a must
  • Must have basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel Experience using an ERP system desirable
  • Ability to read and interpret bills of materials desirable

Work Complexity & Major Relationships

  • Works under supervision of a Production Supervisor and receives instructions as to objectives and responsibilities
  • Work is reviewed for accuracy and to ensure conformity to established procedures and product guidelines
  • Major relationships include internal stakeholders

Decision Making Autonomy

  • Exercises initiative and independent judgment in adapting and applying procedures to address day-to-day activities
  • Consults with supervisor when making decisions regarding complex or unusual circumstances

Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety is critical
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated individual with a sense of initiative
  • Ability to independently identify and develop solutions to problems that may arise in the course of work
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player while solving problems and multitasking in a deadline- driven environment

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

  • General Office Environment, PC use
  • Operation of a forklift (maintaining license)
  • Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
  • Stooping
  • Standing
  • Heavy Lifting (frequent 25 lbs +)
