Inventory Manager

Position Summary: The Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the processes, procedures, and accurate reporting of inventory management from receiving through shipping. Working closely with the Purchasing, Planning, Manufacturing, Warehouse, and Finance teams, this position will develop and implement an inventory strategy and process with the overall goal of increasing accuracy and on-time product delivery.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Principal manager of the inventory activities of the US entities; including off-site storage transaction management and decision making
  • Recommend, develop, and implement changes to inventory management system and process to improve overall inventory accuracy and reduce errors within receiving, inspection, manufacturing, rework, and shipping
  • Maintains inventory accuracy, through daily management and execution of cycle count program, which includes reviewing, analyzing and reporting out on results
  • Responsible for the Inventory Analyst, and Cycle Counter functions
  • Manages, assigns and audits the work of all direct reports; provide semi-annual and annual performance reviews, evaluates performance against job requirements and established annual goals, provides daily coaching and training to develop world class team
  • Manage and lead any physical inventory counts, oversee regular inventory cycle count program, as well as investigate, troubleshoot, and reconcile inventory accuracy issues or transaction errors as they arise on the manufacturing floor
  • Works as a business partner with the Operations, Purchasing, Receiving, Shipping, and Finance teams, providing relevant support to effectively solve inventory related problems
  • Participate in training employees on procedures to support inventory management
  • Following the ‘Delegation and Limit of Authority’, manage the transactional process of inventory adjustments in the ERP system to ensure accurate perpetual inventory; collaborate with Finance to ensure proper alignment between the perpetual inventory system and the general ledger
  • Responsible for all new and existing inventory related metrics. Current metrics include day’s on-hand, dollars on-hand, inventory turns, negative inventory, obsolete inventory, and cycle count accuracy. Responsibilities include data gathering, monthly reporting and report-outs, determining any corrective actions, as well as establishing new and more relevant metrics.
  • Work cross functionally with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to recommend inventory management changes that will improve inventory levels without jeopardizing customer service; safety stock levels, ordering parameters, etc.
  • Monitor Kanban setup/sizing and suggest improvements to prevent outages or overages; recommend items for removal or addition to the Kanban process
  • Resolve inventory transaction errors that result in negative inventory balances; resolve with appropriate transactions in the ERP system, as well as identifying root-cause and working cross functionally to correct underlying process driving the problem

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 plus years of progressive experience, in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Strong cost accounting and inventory knowledge and experience
  • Previous experience in inventory/materials management in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate to expert Excel skills; experience working with large data sets, and can manipulate and organize data effectively and efficiently
  • Intermediate to expert level proficiency in ERP or MRP business system, specifically in work order, BOM, and inventory transaction management, with JD Edwards ERP experience preferred
  • Outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic thinker, who can translate conceptual issues into tangible goals and tasks
  • Ability to influence decisions, work with others, but also work independently, including leading a team, with minimal direction/supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years related experience, with minimum of 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience in a “make to order”/ “engineer to order” / “custom-mix” manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the company
  • Possess strong analytical, critical thinking and judgment skills
  • Self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and able to handle multiple on-going responsibilities
  • Proven presentation skills
  • APICS certification a plus
