Why did you choose to work in the manufacturing sector?

I originally came into manufacturing because I was looking for stability and an opportunity to build a career. I had just started a family and was looking for something that would provide consistency and long-term opportunity.
Over nearly 7 years at G&W Electric, I’ve had the opportunity to grow from a maintenance and project-focused role into plant leadership. Being promoted twice has allowed me to see different sides of the business and has reinforced that manufacturing is a place where you can continue to learn, take on more responsibility, and build a career.
What are some memorable moments of working at G&W Electric?
I’ve been fortunate to be involved in major equipment installations, facility improvements, process changes, and projects that have fundamentally changed how we operate. Seeing a project go from an idea on paper, through budgeting and planning, to running on the plant floor is incredibly rewarding.
Manufacturing is such an important part of our broader economy. What does working in manufacturing mean to you?
Manufacturing is one of those industries where you can see the connection between the people doing the work and the finished product that ultimately supports other businesses, communities, and customers. There is a real sense of accountability because what we do has to work—not just on paper, but in the real world.
Pedro Alonso, Plant Manager, G&W Electric in Mexico
What motivated you to choose a career in manufacturing?

Working in manufacturing was my dream since I was a kid. I love different processes. For me, everything – my scholarship, technical expertise, degree and master’s degree – are focused on manufacturing.
It’s my passion. Every day, I feel excited to be at work with challengers and visualize how our products will benefit the world.
What is it about manufacturing that attracted you?
First, it is the products. The products we make are important. Our products will benefit the environment, the city, and the world.
And then, in manufacturing, you can influence people in a positive way. You can help people be better humans and citizens.
You’ve been with G&W Electric since 2008. What are some experiences that stand out during that time?
Opening the first and the second facility in México. It was very exciting.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in manufacturing?
First, you need to love what do you do in manufacturing. Second, always be open to learn new things. Finally, try to be the best in what you do. Remember, you are competing with yourself.
