Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Controller, this position supports the Finance team and is an integral part of the month end close and reporting process.  This involves preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as various periodic reporting.  In addition, this role provides costing analysis and assists with the Budget/Forecast process.

 

Primary/Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries to general ledger accounts.
  • Perform and maintain monthly balance sheet account reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate financial statements.
  • Assist the Controller with additional projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.
  • Maintain various schedules (fixed assets/accruals etc.) in Excel.
  • Calculate, maintain, and validate annual material, labour and overhead standard costs.
  • Working knowledge of bills of material, labour routings and absorption accounting.
  • Prepare and report analysis on operational performance and budget/forecast variances to strengthen cost controls, reduce costs and increase efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Support year-end audit and tax preparation, as well as budget and forecasting processes.
 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.  MBA is a plus.
  • Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment using standard costing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including advanced to expert Excel skills and exposure to working with large amounts of data.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other major ERP business system, as well as experience using query writing software/tools.
  • In conjunction with the Controller, provide leadership and guidance to junior members of the Finance team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization; able to quickly gain credibility and trust
  • Demonstrates accountability; focused on meeting goals and deliverables on time and at the highest quality level possible
  • Successfully establishes and maintains long-term relationships with colleagues
  • Strong communication skills:  both written and verbal
  • Consistently demonstrates a high degree of business acumen and good judgment

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Desire to help to automate, streamline and document processes.
  • Possess strong analytical, critical thinking and judgment skills.
  • Organized and able to handle multiple on-going responsibilities.

  • Partner with functional groups at all levels of the organization.
 

Physical Demands / Working Conditions: 

  • This role is located in the general office environment, with regular visits to manufacturing
  • PC use
