Maintenance Assistant

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Maintenance & Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring that the company’s equipment and building is well maintained and functioning to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform general maintenance activities with the guidance of qualified maintenance staff.
  • Perform general construction activities requiring light carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing skills.
  • Assist in maintaining Environmental Management System (EMS) and Recycling requirements, including waste manifest processes, implemented by management.
  • Monitor compactor for capacity level and contact disposal company as required.
  • Assist in regular and seasonal maintenance of grounds and interior/exterior of the building and facilities.
  • Communicate status of repairs and/or expected down times to Maintenance Manager.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager to maintain and improve preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation.
  • Computer skills to maintain maintenance programs, issue purchase orders and inventory control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general building maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and building repair.
  • Experience using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of manual and automated production machinery is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Plumbing and electrical knowledge an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous forklift and crane experience.

  • Variable hand/power tool use
