Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Controller, this position supports the Finance team and is an integral part of the month-end close and reporting process.  This involves preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as various periodic reporting.  In addition, this role provides costing analysis and assists with the Budget/Forecasting process.


Primary/Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate financial statements.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries to general ledger accounts.
  • Perform and maintain monthly balance sheet account reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Controller with additional projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.
  • Maintain various schedules (fixed assets/accruals etc.) in Excel.
  • Calculate, maintain, and validate annual material, labour and overhead standard costs.
  • Working knowledge of bills of material, labour routings and absorption accounting.
  • Prepare and report analysis on operational performance and budget/forecast variances to strengthen cost controls, reduce costs and increase efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Compile, analyze, and summarize manufacturing cost data for finished goods, components, and raw materials, including understanding work order variances, and inventory and cost adjustments.
  • Review actual monthly results with plant management and explain variances related to monthly work order production and purchase price variance.
  • Perform and maintain monthly inventory reconciliations.
  • Participate in team related projects involving cost control, waste elimination and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Assist Finance and Operations departments with additional projects as needed.
  • Support year-end audit and tax preparation, as well as budget and forecasting processes.
  • Experience in Customer and Product Line profitability.
  • Experience in Make-vs-Buy Analysis, ROI Analysis and Break-Even Analysis.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other major ERP business system.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.  MBA is a plus.
  • Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment using standard costing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including advanced to expert Excel skills and exposure to working with large amounts of data.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other major ERP business system, as well as experience using query writing software/tools.
  • In conjunction with the Controller, provide leadership and guidance to junior members of the Finance team.
