Director of Advanced Operations Technology

Reporting to the VP, Global Quality/Operations, this senior-level position will partner with the leadership team in translating business strategy into action, driving business results, and addressing our rapid growth within the molding and assembly departments globally. As a change agent and catalyst for continuous improvement, this role will successfully manage the Advanced Molding Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering teams for the Bolingbrook facility, as well as remote oversight for molding and assembly operations in Canada, Mexico, Italy, and Shanghai, ensuring G&W successfully meets all global customer expectations.

           Primary/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and driving global molding and assembly strategic direction for 1-5 year planning horizon that aligns with our corporate Strategic Plan, striving for the world-class manufacturing and superiority in product reliability in the following areas:
    • Digital Transformation
    • Process Engineering
    • Tooling Engineering
    • Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
    • Project Management
    • Advanced Problem Solving
  • Responsible for all engineering disciplines in the Advanced Molding Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering departments. Engineering disciplines include Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, Lean, Digital Transformation, Project Management, and Problem Solving.
  • Responsible for developing the company’s problem-solving methodology and training programs. To include 5-Why techniques to advanced techniques to solve simple to complex problems, ensuring quick resolution, identification of root cause, and sustainment of the improvements.
  • Responsible for developing and continuously improving the company’s molding and assembly process development methodology and training program.
  • Serves as a change agent for the CI culture change, driving the transition and complete adaption across the global organization.
  • Responsible for driving continuous improvement strategies for global molding and assembly processes to achieve overarching business strategy.
  • Provides leadership for all molding quality improvement initiatives and problem-solving projects with other cross-functional groups. Ensures learning is incorporated and sustained.
  • Responsible to drive quality through APQP techniques to ensure the consistency and quality of processes and products.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of global molding and assembly processes for New Product Development in launching new products.
  • Responsible for technology advances for complex insert molding supports all global initiative with technical resources.
  • Champions all CI initiatives throughout the organization to interested parties of varying technical knowledge levels from directors to engineers to operators.
  • Responsible for proactively supporting capacity increases to align with growth through new technology, and innovative manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for succession planning within the department, improving individual performance, and developing “Hi-potential” talent.
  • Champion in driving compliance to zero-carbon initiatives, developing processes and products that support this initiative.
  • Provide leadership and direction consistent with company and business strategic goals.
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other departments and facilities.
  • Collaborates and supports the Director of Manufacturing to achieve departmental goals.

         Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline (Masters preferred). Prefer major in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, material engineering, or similar.

· Minimum of 10 years technical molding experience

· Minimum of 10 years managing teams and processes in a manufacturing environment

· Demonstrated motivational/influential leadership skills and strong business acumen

· Experience and proven track record in continuous improvement, problem solving, process development and control, and project management

· Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

· Solution-oriented and “hands-on” Director, willing to teach and develop less experienced team members

· Experience in an Assembly environment is preferred

· Ability to travel domestically & internationally as necessary, approximately 20%
